Agni Raksha’s outreach programmes not only helps to identify burn victims from urban poor communities but also creates awareness about prevention of burns caused by accidents or unsafe cooking practices. The outreach programmes are organized with support from Community Based Organizations, Schools, and Colleges. Thus many have benefited from the sensitization about first aid delivery, preventative measures and safety precautions related to fire accidents. Agni Raksha also used the interfacing platform to sensitize the communities it works with about social malpractices against women such as dowry, physical and mental harassment.
In many ways, the significance of sensitisation programmes for grassroots level health workers and paramedical personnel increases when they are organized in the rural areas. The awareness about reasons for burn injuries, prevention and treatment is limited for the rural and peri-urban health workers. The very basis of organising programs in the rural areas was the fact that an increasing number of burn victims are coming from here. The lack of knowledge about proper first aid practices has led to increasing the risk for burn victims.
